Our Term Time Beginners Fencing Courses

Our Junior and Senior beginners fencing courses are run over ten weeks, (one term), with our Senior beginners fencing taster sessions being run over the first three weeks of the course. Our small Senior beginner classes allow for much more 121 time with the coach than larger classes, and both our Junior and Senior beginners are kitted out with the minimum 350n fencing safety equipment. However, all students are required to wear sports trainers, above ankle sports socks, plain loose-fitting dark sports track suit trousers with zip, sewn up or no pockets and a crew neck T-Shirt (no long sleeve T-Shirts or Polo shirts). At the start of every session students undertake a short warm up. Beginners are taught to fence with one of the three fencing weapons,  (Foil, Epee or Sabre). The course will comprise how to advance and retire on the piste, make explosive and accelerating lunges, simple and compound attacks, and varieties of defence. Students will learn the conventions of fencing in a competition, how to direct, judge and run a fencing bout and pool. Later they are provided with electric fencing equipment to take part in  fencing bouts. After taking the course Junior and Senior beginners can then join the Club as fencers, put into practice what they have learned by fencing other members and develop and evolve their skills. Junior Beginners Course Details

Junior Beginners Courses are for those aged 7 to 15 and start at the regular club time of 7:00 pm on the first Monday of each term. The courses are run over ten weeks, not including bank holidays. The cost of the Junior Beginners Course is £80.00, with an early booking discount and second sibling discount available. Senior Beginners Taster Sessions & Course Details

Senior Beginners Taster Sessions and Courses are for those aged 146 to 65 plus, and take place on the first Thursday of each term starting at the regular club time of 8:00 pm. The taster sessions are run over the first three weeks of the course, followed by an additional seven weekly sessions making up the ten week beginners fencing course, not including weeks with Monday bank holidays in. During the course students are sent each week an information sheet to act as an aide-memoire for the weeks lesson. The cost of the Senior Beginners Taster Sessions is just £30.00, with the Senior Beginners Course being an additional £60.00, or £80.00 in total if you pay for both the taster and course in advance, concession discounts are available. The Scouts Master at Arms Badge Course

This is a six week fencing course, available from the start of each term where Scouts can learn all they need to know in order to obtain their Master at Arms Badge. The course comprises most of the content of the beginners course and students can take part in fencing bouts using all the electrical equipment, be coached and given feedback. After the course they receive a confirmation letter from the club for their scout leader. The cost of the Scouts course is £42.00. Our School Half Term and Holiday Courses 

Royal Greenwich runs intermittent children’s holiday fencing courses and taster sessions over the summer holidays, dependant on interest and venue availability. The courses and taster sessions are aimed at beginners and are for those aged 7 to 16.

The holiday fencing taster sessions run during the day and provide an introduction to fencing, where the student can try out the basics. You can enquire about prospective courses and, taster sessions by emailing the above email address. Please note that attendance of the club is by prior arrangement only so course places must be booked and paid for in advance.

The availability of sessions is dependent on take up and details may vary.
