Club steam & electric weapons, wires, masks & gloves

Equipment available, Weapons and Clothing:

The Club has an extensive range of male and female right and left handed fencing equipment available.

Members who own all their own equipment can borrow Club equipment not required for our beginners on the night, when they have a shortfall due to a forgotten or broken item.

For our beginner fencing courses we supply all the weapons and minimum safety equipment required for our junior, cadet, senior and adult beginners to use during the course.

Junior fencing term members, aged 8 to 9 will be provided with all the minimum fencing safety equipment required for their use during training and fencing.

Junior fencing term members, aged 10 to 13 will need to provide their own 350n breeches, and the Club will provide all the other minimum fencing safety equipment required for their use during training and fencing.

Cadet fencing term members, aged 14 to 15 will need to provide their own 350n breeches and 800n plastron, and the Club will provide all the other minimum fencing safety equipment required for their use during training and fencing.

Seniors, aged 16 to 17 and Adults, aged 18 to 65 plus who have just completed a course and join as a term member will need to provide their own 350n breeches and 800n plastron. They may loan these from the Club during the first term after their course while they arrange to purchase their own, with the Club providing the rest of the minimum fencing safety equipment required for their use during training and fencing. Adults will then need to purchase their own minimum fencing safety equipment during their second and third terms.

There are 3 fencing weapons provided at the Club, the Foil and Epee with French grip and Sabre. Supplied in steam, (non-electric), and electric versions, in junior blade sizes 0, 1, 2 and 3, and adult size 5. Steam weapons are used for training, and when visually judging hits in fights. Electric weapons are used when judging hits in fights using the electric scoring apparatus.

We supply both 350N (newton) and 800N (newton) rated clothing, which is the standard required by the BFA (British Fencing Association) our national governing body (NGB). We also provide Foil and Sabre Lames, which are thin metallic jackets worn over the fencing jacket when using the electric scoring apparatus.
