British Fencing Achievement & DofE Awards

British Fencing Achievement Awards

Since 1988 at Royal Greenwich Fencing Club we have offered our Junior and Adult students the opportunity to undertake the British Fencing Achievement Awards. These awards are weapon specific, covering the Foil, Epee and Sabre and are progressive, from Levels 1-6 in each weapon. They demonstrate technical competency and understanding, and are focused on a wide range of weapon-specific fencing skills and theory with each award building on the previous award. These awards can only be awarded by a registered British Fencing coach, and in order to achieve one the student must take an examination consisting of practical and theory elements, and on successful completion receives a certificate and badge. For details on how to undertake a British Fencing Achievement Award you can contact the Club via the form below or email royalgreenwichfencingclub@btinternet.com.

Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Awards

Over the past 5 years Royal Greenwich has been involved in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, which is for ages 14 to 24, producing assessor reports for the DofE for those of our students undertaking a British Fencing Achievement Award as part of the physical education section of the DofE Bronze, Silver or Gold levels. Each level requires an increasing amount of time, stamina and personal responsibility to achieve, depending on the level participation takes between 6 and 18 months to complete. Once successfully completing a British Fencing Achievement Award for their chosen weapon and grade, an assessors repot containing the start and end dates, progress made, achievements, frequency and additional comments are uploaded onto the DofE website. Upon successful completion of their DofE, participants then receive an international award that is highly regarded by employers.
